Basecamp Oulanka is located in the heart of nature in the Oulanka National Park area. You can reach us by car, plane, train or bus, but the final part of the journey fro public transportation endpoint to Basecamp always requires some planning.

By car

Driving is the easiest and most flexible way to reach Basecamp. Drive to Kuusamo or Ruka and follow signs towards Oulanka National Park. The last kilometers are along Myllykoskentie road.

The final section is a gravel road. During spring thaw conditions, the road can be in poor condition and occasionally challenging. Parking is available at Basecamp.

By air

The nearest airport is Kuusamo Airport. There are regular direct flights from Helsinki, with a flight time of approximately 1 hour 20 minutes.

By train

The closest railway station is Kemijärvi, but in practice Rovaniemi is often the most convenient option due to better connections and services.

From the train station, you will need onward transport. Options include bus connections to Kuusamo or Ruka, followed by taxi or rental car for the final part.

There are bus connections to Kuusamo and Ruka from several cities. However, there is no direct bus to Basecamp*), so onward transport is required.

We recommend checking schedules in advance, especially if arriving in the evening or outside peak seasons.

Transfers

We can assist with arranging transfers from Kuusamo Airport, Ruka or Kuusamo town. Transfers should be booked in advance to ensure a smooth arrival.

*)During the summer season, Karhunkierros Express operates between Ruka and Basecamp Oulanka.
